South Africa Fashion Week

Lukhanyo Mdingi, Judith Atelier, and MmusoMaxwell, three South African design studios, have collaborated to participate in the Diamond Fibre Collections, a never-before-seen range of designer fashion that celebrates the versatility and elegance of mohair.

The Diamond Fibre Collections is a South Africa Mohair Cluster (SAMC) project in collaboration with SAFW. The project started with a call for applications, which resulted in the nomination of 20 young South African designers. The Fashion Agent, South Africa, largest fashion wholesale agency and distribution group, had also agreed to the strategic partnership. The SAMC launched this campaign to showcase the versatility of mohair and to show the Cluster’s contribution to the small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs). The SAMC is a non-profit organization that has been approved by the South African Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to administer and promote funds to achieve growth and sustainability.

Mohair, also known as “the diamond fiber,” is a smooth and lustrous fiber of exceptional dye retention, elasticity, and strength. Since South Africa produces roughly half of the world’s mohair, the Diamond Fibre Collections are a celebration of local artists, fabrics, manufacturers, and fashion.
