Couture Fashion Week on schedule

Another day, another fashion week schedule announcement, and this time we welcome back Couture Fashion Week with the release of the decided schedule. This fashion week will consist of a total of eight brands that will be showcasing an in person catwalk.

This fashion week will make its return in July of this year and will feature some of the most in person catwalks that have taken place since Covid. The Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode posted a calendar that detailed both live shows as well as live-streaming for individuals watching from home. Following the trend of both in person and virtual events that we have been seeing through 2021. The relasted schedule shows that the eight big name brands such as Dior, Chanel, Armani Privé, Balenciaga, Jean Paul Gaultier, Zuhair Murad, Azzaro Couture and Vaishali S are going to be among the designers that showcase an in person show, while 25 other brands will be hosting their shows virtually.

Possibly the most notable news from this release comes the news that Balenciaga will be making its comeback and will be showcasing a brand new collection. This is the first time in fifty three years that the fashion house presents a couture collection.

And in honor of the schedule being released for Paris Couture Fashion Week, let’s take a look at some facts about Paris Fashion Week you might not have known- even if you’re an avid fashion lover. These facts come from an article released by CR Fashion titled “Facts You Didn’t Know About Paris Fashion Week

Haute Couture was born in the city of lights, and while fashion shows have been in existence for over 170 years- the lavish catwalk we know and love today only came to be in the 70s. It acts as a reminder of the serious influence Paris has had on the fashion world. Let’s start with the Haute Couture rules.

The very first Paris Fashion Week in existence was held on the 28th of November 1973 and was under the supervision of Eleanor Lambert, the founder of New York Fashion Week. The fashion week took place as a fundraiser within the Palace of Versailles as a way of raising money to help with the cost of renovations that the palace desperately needed. The cost of the renovations stood at a whopping 60 million dollars. This would later become known as the Battle of Versies.

One of the most notable happenings at the first Paris Fashion Week was the appearance of black models on the french runaway. There were a total of 36 models that were casted for the runway show, of which 11 of them consisted of black women. This number might seem insignificant now, but it was unprecedented for the time period. The showcasing of such diversity wowed the crowd that attended. The houses within Haute Couture are set out by the standards of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. These rules include that a house must showcase collections consisting of at least 35 fashion pieces each season, this rule has facilitated the then new concept that was fashion week.

An aspect of Paris Fashion Week which holds substantial importance is location. These events through the years have been held in a number of various locations and historical monuments. Some of the top designers have stated that there is a lot of significance that a location can bring to the enchantment of a runway.

The last fact might leave you a little speechless. And that is that the origin of Paris Fashion Week isn’t actually French. Charles Fredrick Worth who is known as the father of haute couture isn’t actually a frenchman. He may have gained his big career start in Paris, but he is originally from England.
