Despite Nike and MSCHF settling the suit months ago, Lil Nas X uses case to market upcoming single, “Industry Baby”.

Lil Nas X has stated on Twitter and TikTok in the recent weeks that he may go to jail as a result of a Nike-led lawsuit for his limited-edition Satan sneakers. Lil Nas X released the fanciful music video for his track “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” in March, which featured the rapper pole dancing into the pits of hell to lap dance for the devil. Conservative Christians, predictably, were displeased. As a result, Lil Nas did what anyone experiencing adversity would do: he issued 666 pairs of customized Nike Air Max 97s with droplets of real human blood.

Unhappy with the rapper’s misuse of their shoes, Nike denied any involvement with the sneaker and sued MSCHF - the studio that cooperated with Lil Nas on his “Satan Shoes” causing every pair to be recalled and destroyed. Despite Nike and MSCHF settling the suit months ago, the 22-year-old pop star has maximized the drama as useful inspiration, tossing out the hashtags #FREELILNASX and #NikevLilNasX in anticipation of an unfortunate court date, utilizing the online media intensity for his benefit of yet another single titled “Industry baby”

Lil Nas X hinted at the announcement of release for “Industry Baby” which would feature Jack Harlow produced by Kanye West and Take A Daytrip, on TikTok with a video of him dancing and text stating, “when you have court on Monday over satan shoes and might go to jail, but your label tells you to keep making tiktoks.” The teaser seems to be a prophetic dramatization of his Nike lawsuit, as well as a retort to jerks freaking out over his sexuality, all rolled into one.

Lil Nas X revealed his upcoming debut album, Montero, with a cinematic teaser on social media last month. For now, though, there is no set release date for the album. While Lil Nas stands up in his new limited-time video, he is not mentioned as a defendant in Nike’s lawsuit. It’s unclear why the “Old Town Road” rapper would suddenly face actual penalties for the shoes if he’s not, without a doubt, savaging.
