Model Monday: Kelly

Fashion and commercial Model, Kelly Gervais first started her journey in Mexico with small modeling agency up the street from her families house. From new digitals to a ..... Her now 15 year tenyard as a professional model is evident to not only passionate and hard work, but experience and awareness of relationship building and brand consistency. From her beginning days in Mexico, Kelly ended up returning to New York City(where she currently lives) signing with Trump models in the early 2000s Kelly continued to grow in noteriety as a commercial model but longed for the ever glamours fashion editorial limelight and runway spectical. 

Throughout our talk in soho, Kelly remember her earlier days of naivety to do more of the fashion editorial tear sheets, and fashion runway cat walks, before realizing that you take a pay cut in trade of the press attention. That most think of when model (especially fashion model) makes it's way into their ears. 

After her time with Trump models Kelly took to the independent route, retaining a solid clientele for work and bookings, however found herself in the frenzy of negations, and follow ups to confirm payments - which lead her into back into the agency world with her current fashion model agency home Fenton.

Q : Do you feel you need an agency, Especially with social media today?

A : I think agencies more than anything help with negotiations, what you should be getting paid and dealing with the confirmations on your behalf

Q: And as far as inclusiveness or inclusivity in fashion, what's your take on that?

A: I feel it has gotten A LOT better, especially since I started. I remember being on sets where I was literally the only black girl in the room. I remember recently doing a show with Studio 189, and when I walked I the room i just started clapping because it was Soo much black excellence from the models, but also the makeup artists, the hair stylists. It was so great to see.
