Dior goes dreamy and mythological with its Autumn-Winter 2020-2021
Under the surveillance and creative spark of Maria Grazia Chiuri, the Dior Autumn-Winter 2020-2021 Haute Couture collection has chosen to embark an oneiric scenary for its digital fashion show.
The debut for the women’s collection happened on July 6th, whereas for the men’s one clients, fashionistas, and the most high fashion aficionados had to wait for the exclusive release on Monday 13th at 2:30 PM, Paris local time, with the artistic direction of Kim Jones.
Instead of a runaway, for its freshiest women’s collection Dior takes its audience into an imaginary world, filled with Pre-Raphaelite muses, mythological creatures, and a crisp-metallic palette of colors with an Italian-French collaboration. The director, Matteo Garrone, was able to capture the supernatural world beyond the physical aesthetics while at the same time giving a sneak peek of the most terrestrial elements and behaviours in both the environment of this short-movie and its characters.
The surrealism of the film is accompained by the virtuous, long, and slim pieces that the collection offers. The colors used in this collection shifts from earthy to neatural, with lots of grey, beige, and pearl tones.
The plot of the movie is easy to follow, since it’s basically the representation of the renowed théâtre de la mode, a touring fashion show with which French designers and stylists presented their collections with customized dolls between Europe and the United States during the World War II. What is not basic is the connection that Dior found in the current situation the fashion industry is facing with COVID 19 and its related lockdowns. For this reason, recalling the théâtre de la mode looks much like a call for hope for future productions and ideas that Dior wants to be vocal about.
On Friday the fashion house has also announced their new Parisian address, in 261 Rue Saint-Honoré. Here clients will be able to see the ready-to-wear collections by both Chiuri and Jones, inside a building of five levels with also leather goods, accessorizes, and footwear.
